Fly Spitta: Curren$y

HHLO’s Shunita speaks with FlySociety’s Curren$y about his current label situation, the possibility of working with Lil’ Wayne again, and what projects the Fly Spitta has in the works.

Hip Hop Lives Online: How did you start in the music industry?

Curren$y: I tried college for about four days and realized it was not for me. I have been always rapping off and on but never took it seriously.

HHLO: After a certain amount of time, why did you slow down from theCurren$y music industry?

Curren$y: Because I did not see it going no where, and I was trying to things like starting a clothing line. I really could see me making money from this because I have some good designs.

HHLO: What are your future plans for the music industry?

Curren$y: I have been putting out mix tapes since February; and will be continuing to put out mix tapes for the rest of this year. I plan to continue putting out mix tapes until I make a decision to get the right record deal. I have some offers on the table now, but want to make sure I am getting the best deal. Once I get connected with the right label people can expect a major album to be dropped, especially since was not able to drop one yet.

HHLO: Do you see your self working with Lil Wayne again?

Curren$y: NO!!!

HHLO: When you made the announcement that you were no longer on Young Money, you stated in your blog, that you weren’t making any diss records. That’s a good look, but can you give some insight on what happened?

Curren$y: Nothing really happened…it’s just that some situations aren’t for everybody…just like college.

HHLO: Any big things happening for FlySociety? I see a couple of shows scheduled…

Curren$y: Just looking over these deal offers trying to make the best move.

HHLO: So how did you hook up with TK, Hit and Felix?

Curren$y: I met TK at a D.C. Shoes party in L.A. around X Games 3 or 4 yrs ago. I met H.I.T. and Felix thru him…but we all fam. F.S.Jets and F.S. West whadup!!!

HHLO: You’re boy (TK) was in the news yesterday, talking about fighting with Bugsy over his girl. Have you heard from TK on the situation?

Curren$y: Nah I didn’t even know about that…

HHLO: So do you have a new smash hit for your fans coming out soon?

Curren$y: Yea! I am always putting out hits.

HHLO: When can we expect to see the next Mixtape?

Curren$y: August….and then September and then October and then November….do u see a pattern??? Haha.

HHLO: Who are you working with on it…any special guests or is it straight Curren$y fire?

Curren$y: Don’t know yet it depends who falls thru da studio while I’m recording if it’s somebody I fucks wit then we’ll drop a banger.

HHLO: What record label are you interested in?

Curren$y: I have a few that have reached out, but I can not say any names because that might push another deal out.

HHLO: Did you have any struggles or support that pushed you into the music industry?

Curren$y: Yea, I had a lot of support from everywhere. I never ran into any issues, I mean you got your haters, but I got family around me, so it’s all good.

HHLO: Is that anything else that you want your fans to know?

Curren$y: yea, just check out my myspace page, I have t-shirts and music and other good information on there, and thanks for continuing to support me. You can get my page at www.myspace.com/flyspitta.

Mo Money Mo Problems

I guess Mr. So-Called “Best Rapper Alive” may actually be living up to the status, if not the reality of this statement.  In late 2007, Lil Wayne was sued by a N.O. Jewler for a diamond ring and a gold-and-diamond necklace he purchased, totaling in a suit of $146,000.  Allegedly he has received no money from the N.O. native, but hopes it has all been a “misunderstanding.” Lil’ Wayne

Following, just days before the release of Mr. Carter’s multi-platinum album, “Tha Carter III,” Lil Wayne was sued by Le Marck de Andre for defaulting on payments for his 1999 Bentley Arnage.  You would guess that by this time Weezy would have enough “rain” to pour down on these “ho’s” (such as the amount that landed his August 2007 lawsuit from a Morgan State student.)  Apparently Le Marck de Andre & friends are attempting to get F. Baby for $123,800 along with $200 extra per day for the damages.  But that’s last month’s lawsuit.

Recently Birdman Jr. has been sued by Abcko Music Inc due to allegations that his song “Playin’ With Fire”(off his latest) was illegally copied from a Rolling Stones track.  (What boggles me is that the lyrics aren’t the SAME but are SIMILAR… obviously these guys aren’t “hip” to the hip hop trend)… I’m not sure if I should say I hope he continues to get more money to help with these lawsuits, or if he should get less to make them go away…… SMH

Bad Lucc Charm

Bad Lucc from the infamous West Coast group Western Union sits down with Ei8ht from HHLO.net to discuss their new project, how he got signed to Snoops Label, and the Rumors that he fell off of a boat while partying with the Dog Father himself.

Bad Lucc: I’m from LA, I’m from Watts.

HHLO: There’s a bunch of gully Ni**as out there in Watts.Bad Lucc

Bad Lucc: Ahh yea, you know everybody wants to play hard.

HHLO: Aight so tell me about your rap style man, you’re a rap general, you’re a gorilla with your sound man, how did you get started in this industry man? What made you pick up a microphone?

Bad Lucc: Man, I was in school around ‘94 or ‘95 everybody was having ciphers at lunch and sh*t like that, and I just wanted to get in. I wrote poetry as a youngin’ but I wanted my due, I wanted people ohhin’ and ahhin’ at me. So I just said let me put something on paper and it kind of worked out for me.

HHLO: Ok that’s what it is man. How old are you man?

Bad Lucc: 28

HHLO: Oh aight, that doesn’t even sound like a got damn industry age man. So that’s your true age huh?

Bad Lucc: Oh that’s my real sh*t.

HHLO: I thought you were about to tell me 17 or some sh*t man.

Bad Lucc: (laughing) Hell Nah!

HHLO: Yea you know how Ni**as get down out here man.

Bad Lucc: Everybody wants to seem like their some young phenom man them Ni**as be old as hell.

HHLO: Yea man, a lot of these Ni**as is 37, 38 and they dropping their first single.

Bad Lucc: (laughing) Yea man.

HHLO: So tell me about Western Union man. I mean I know about you cats and how you’re doing your thing out there in the West but for those that don’t know tell me about the crew, who’s involved and what’s your situation, give me some background.

Bad Lucc: Western Union is a group started by my man Damani from Inglewood. The Group consists of myself, my man Damani and SuperFly from Long Beach. A lot of ya’ll should know Super, if you’re on your music. Ya’ll should know SuperFly from the Dogg Pound. He’s been down with the Dogg pound since Dogg Father or some sh*t like that. So we was linked up by Damani he wanted some different cats from different towns. I’m from Watts, Damani’s From Inglewood and Fly’s from Long Beach, so we linked up and came together as one, on some Unity sh*t. It was hella dope. The music we were making, the vibe we was making. Snoop caught on to it, plus him and Fly been working since forever, Snoop just wanted us to be down, he was like “what’s up I want ya’ll on my label.” We did some songs or whatever and then we inked a deal, Koch/Doggy Style straight like that.

HHLO: Aight that’s what it is. Now who did you say started it up?

Bad Lucc: My man Damani from Inglewood.

HHLO: Yea, that’s that slick looking Ni**a with the Afro right?

Bad Lucc: (laughing)

HHLO: Yea, I’ve seen that playa.

Bad Lucc: Yea, it was his whole idea. I was down from day one, then we picked up Fly, and right around the time that we picked up Fly, Snoop heard about it. We had the first mixtape we did it was called “Jackin for DJs.” We took Whoo Kid’s shit that was the thing we was doing. Damani’s would take DJ’s shit and make it seem like it was them and Snoop liked the whole concept he like what we was doing so he was like… “Church I want to sign ya’ll,” so there it is.

HHLO: So what’s the situation looking like now, do ya’ll have a date? Are ya’ll trying to drop an album, or are ya’ll still just mixtape grinding?

Bad Lucc: We actually wrapping up the album right now, we actually are shooting a video for the single right now for the single “Western Union.” My man BJ on the hook and Daz on the bridge and Superfly did the production. The album is suppose to drop around Mid July. I don’t have a set date yet but I want to say around mid to late July. (Editor’s Note: Date is currently set for August 19th according to Koch Records).

HHLO: Ok, so now you’re running with Snoop, your signed to his label, he has a fly pimpish style to him and I know some of SuperFly’s work but you’re a beast lyrically man. How did you manage to mesh that style?

Bad Lucc: Thanks man. Uhh I don’t know man. I always like being aggressive, I’m already a big dude. I was always hell of aggressive with the style. Like my favorite rapper of all time was Ice Cube, I like what he did but I love East Coast rap, so coming up off of that like I bought tapes. A lot of cats are getting into it now, trying to go back on sh*t, but I bought tapes, actual tapes. Like I got Meth’s first sh*t, I got Main Source’s shit, “Live at the Barbeque”. A lot of dudes wasn’t up on their sh*t but I studied their lyrics, I was big on lyrics. So I put that with my aggressive style and I guess it worked out. I mean people say they like it so… it is what it is.

HHLO: That’s what’s up man. Now I heard this one Snoop track where Ni**a said that you fell off a boat or some sh*t man, what happen with that? What is he talking about?

Bad Lucc: (laughing) Man he was just playing man. I did a lot of work on his project man, I think I wrote like 3 or 4 joints and he was just clowning around man. I just happened to be in the studio and he made up some sh*t and he tried to shout me out at the same time but now everybody thinks that I fell off some damn boat. I ain’t fall out no damn boat, fu*k that sh*t.

HHLO: Ahh man, I thought you was doing some lines of coke or something and slipped of the damn boat or some sh*t.

Bad Lucc: (laughing) Nah, hell nah it ain’t nothing like that.

HHLO: So what’s good are you on tour? Are you making moves or what? What’s next for you man?

Bad Lucc: Well Snoop put together this little regional little West Fest tour he got. That was June 19th thru July 2nd. It’s Western Union, War Zone, Mr. Fab, Glasses Malone and Dogg Pound and once the album comes out we’re setting up dates for over the summer.

HHLO: Now are you looking forward to branching off and doing a solo projector is that too far ahead for you right now?

Bad Lucc: Well originally we are all solo artist. So we all still have our solo things that we want to do, but as a group you have to move as a unit, so the main focus is the group sh*t. Once we get that going and settled and popping then we can get to our solo sh*t. So there will definitely be solo projects from Bad Lucc, Damani and Superfly but right now we don’t want to take the shine away from our group sh*t.

HHLO: Aight now I have a situation I want to talk to you about man. Sh*t went down a lil’ while ago. I heard you were out partying and some tuff big bald headed ni**a named Suge stepped to you and you knocked the Ni**a out man. What happen with that whole situation?

Bad Lucc: (laughing) Nah that wasn’t me brother.

HHLO: I heard you swung on Suge. I heard that you owed him some money from a dice game he approached you on it, and you took the ni**a down.

Bad Lucc: Nah that wasn’t me. I was nowhere near… I was in the house or the studio or somewhere. I was nowhere near the Hollywood area. I heard about a situation sort of similar to that but I had nothing to do with it.

HHLO: Ahh come on man you have to capitalize on that man. That’s a promotional gimmick right there man. You have to capitalize when a promotional opportunity like that comes up.

Bad Lucc: Man I capitalize off of my own drama, but if I wasn’t involved then I wasn’t involved.

HHLO: Yea, yea, yea I can dig it. So speaking of drama, you didn’t have to choke any of those slick talking rap Ni**as out there on the West Coast up yet did you?

Bad Lucc: Nah, nah people respect it. It’s like when they see me on the streets, I mean I bump into a lot of these artist and it’s all good all the time, there’s never any problems. I never did cross the line with actual gang banging and there is no individual beefs with me, so I’m pretty good with everybody, unless their saying some sh*t on the low, but you can’t stop that. Sh*t they hating on Hov, they hating on Jay so you know they are going to hate on us.

HHLO: Yea I can dig it, I had some slick talking Rap cat whose name I’m not going to mention, send me damn death threats over the internet. Some got damn email death threats. Ain’t that some sh*t.

Bad Lucc: Yea that’s some Bullsh*t. How do you email a death threat I don’t even understand all of that.

HHLO: Yea some got damn tough talker, yea I’ll leave his name out of it because you maybe cool with him and I don’t want to get you involved.

Bad Lucc: Yea I can dig it. You don’t want to promote him; you don’t want to build his career up.

HHLO: Well… I am actually going to tear his career down.

Bad Lucc: (laughing)

HHLO: Yea …. This is what I do playboy… yea I have my hands full with this one cat already but when I’m done I’ll swing my attention over to bitch boy and his crew sending damn death threats ….so anything else you plugging man?

Bad Lucc: Nah I’m just working man, trying to finish up this album, get it out there to the public, rock with Snoop Dogg and get it cracking that’s it.

HHLO: I know you got some THX tracks on the album man.

Bad Lucc: Oh yea, he’s a fuc*in beast. You will know about him soon enough, he is crazy.

HHLO: So any features, anybody featured on the album?

Bad Lucc: Nah it’s really just us, Daz I mean he’s doing his thing on there and we got some tracks from Teddy Riley and DJ Quick, but as far as artist we are holding our own.

HHLO: Ahh God bless your heart man, you gave Teddy Riley some money to do a track for you man, you know times is hard for that Ni**a.

Bad Lucc: Stop, stop, stop it now (laughing).

HHLO: Come on what you gave him $10?

Bad Lucc: Ahh come on.

HHLO: Nah I’m just fu*kin with you. He’s a legend. Teddy Riley is a legend in the game man so I’ll respect him. But thanks for the interview and thanks for hopping on the SD album as well man.
