Feature Mixtape Download: Jay Rock "Gudda Musik" with DJ Kay Slay & DJ Noodles

Jay Rock is a member of the new school of rappers out West and unlike his counterparts on the East, you can easily spot the influence of his predecessors. This isn’t a bad thing. This that Gang bangin’ Gudda Muzik at its finest. You’ll see.

If the west coast rappers gets criticized for not being lyrical, their song making ability definitely makes up for it. Jay Rock is no Nas, but he still manages to paint picturesjayrock_guddamuzik_01 and create bangers on Gudda Muzik.

On “Follow Me Home (Cali Soul)”, Jay Rock gives listeners a glimpse of where he’s from, over a cool Marlena Shaw sample that sounds like the sun rising. He even has The Game on there, a ballsy move considering he’s often accused of sounding like him (which he does). But keep listening and you’ll find their styles easily distinguishable.

The standout track has to be “How to Rob 2009″, a remake of 50 Cent’s infamous industry shakedown. He spares no one, not even Lil Wayne who was on his first single or The Game who put him on tour earlier this year. Yeah, it’s been done before, but Jay Rock does the concept justice with his humor. He also accurately captures the current scene of hip hop and R & B through all his imaginary stick-ups much like the original did (TI going to jail, Lil Kim on Dancing on Stars, etc.).

The last thing that you should notice about Jay Rock through this mixtape are the features. He reaches out to NY artists like (Lloyd Banks, Busta, Red Cafe, Grafh, etc.) and also gets everybody from his coast on the “All My Life” remix. Maybe he’s just trying to build a buzz, but I’d like to think he’s trying to unify rappers, take leadership, and change a musical genre that’s over-saturated with corny beefs. If not, he’s still making that dope gangsta shit.
