8ball and MJG have been ‘going in” on tracks since their 1993 debut, except of course, back then it was called Comin’ Out Hard. Today, they’re Southern rap royalty with eight albums as a group and a gang of records as soloists. It’s one reason, they’ll always have a deal on the winning team, whether its Bad Boy or TI’s Grand Hustle label.
The duo chop it up with HHLO about the new album’s features, different perspectives of hip hop and how they manage to stay together as a group. Continue Reading

On “Back On The Grind” (from Hi-Tek’s Hiteknology 3), rapper Riz touches on the discouraging nature of the game. Three years later, it’s good to see that he’s still off the streets and pumping out music. Fresh off collaborations with block-star Red Cafe (“R.A.C.K.S.”) and self-proclaimed king of Memphis Yo Gotti (“I’m Gucci”), the Harlem native is beginning to make his mark. He sat down with HHLO to discuss upcoming projects, the state of new york hip hop, his amicable split with Sha Money XL, and being a positive influence in his community.

When established artists introduce their proteges, they usually like to ease them in (pause) with a verse on a single. Give the people a taste (pause) and get the anticipation up. But when Cam let Vado ride (pause) shotgun on every track of the Boss of All Bosses mixtape, he really went in (pause). Months later, the Harlemite gets a proper introduction with Large on the Streets. Continue Reading

Being signed to Kanye’s Good Music label and having Q-tip as your cousin should be enough co-sign to get you some mainstream recognition. However, big commercial success seems to have alluded
rapper Consequence, at least in comparison to label mates John Legend, Common and Kid Cudi. So for his latest project, Movies on Demand, the Queens native shoots for the ‘feature presentation’ rather than settling on just a mixtape. Continue Reading

The month of February represents many different things for different people. No Mixtape is a ride in the white van as Bun B snatches up beats from everybody Jay-z, Chris Brown, whoever. So get in, fasten your seatbelts and let the Trill OG be your guide. It’s a full time jack move!
Some critics say southern rappers can’t do their thing over east coast records. While that may be true for some of these one-hit wonder types, the Texas-native proves that he’s home on any style of production. On “On to the Next Year”, Bun takes a Swizz Beats’ record and performs in true New York fashion. Bars o plenty, no hook. A couple of tracks later, he’s on “Coocoo” giving the Slaughterhouse boys a run for their money spitting lines like, “rather have niggas respect us then to have them love us/ try to push us to the edge but can’t shove us/ ’cause that’s when calm black brothers turn to black glovers”. The man really has nothing to prove at this point, but tracks like these are a big part of why the East coast will always have respect for the lyricist.
Other highlights include “I Got Cake”, a song with his UGK half Pimp C (RIP) that shows how dope their chemistry really was. “Bag Music” showcases his storytelling skill as he relates his rise from ‘look out’ to OG. “Adrenaline Rush” is double time Bun B, switching up the flow on a track that sounds like Clint Eastwood entering a bar, trigger finger itchy. Lastly, Bun B takes pretty boy Chris Brown’s single and gives it the proper treatment it deserves. “”Fuck nigga I warned ya, i will put you in a coma, i will transform ya”. A ruthless hook that would make Megatron proud.
It seems the only beat Bun wouldn’t touch is “Exhibit C”. He starts the instrumental on “Big Dick Chaney” and then cuts it off, saying what everybody else is thinking; Jay Electronica already killed that one and other rappers should leave it alone. It’s funny how that statement comes from one of the only emcees who would do the song justice. Get Trill OG when it drops

With a new project (or three) for every year since 2004, Bizzy Bone proved that he would continue to shine, with or without his group Bone Thugs n Harmony. Meanwhile, Layzie, Krayzie and Wish seemed to be doing just fine without Bizzy’s falsetto in the mix for the Strength & Loyalty album. To anybody else, that’s what you would call a good clean break, but for die-hard BTNH fans, it’s just some regular bullshit. Continue Reading
