Editorial: Gun Charges Are Destroying Talent
With former Hot Boy B.G.’s recent arrest on gun charges, he’s just one of many rappers that have gone down this road. T.I. is already in jail for gun charges while Lil Wayne is about to get a year in February for gun charges in New York. I know rappers are vulnerable to the realities of life but I have to wonder when some of these guys are going to change their ways. Prodigy from Mobb Deep is also serving a lengthy prison term for illegal gun possession.
If you’ve got the kind of money that Lil Wayne has, why don’t you just hire a bodyguard that is licensed to carry a firearm? That way you have nothing to worry about. Instead Weezy is going to be spending a year of his life in jail when he could have completely avoided it. The case of former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is another example of how guns and stupidity can change your life forever.
It’s safe to say that many of these rappers are prime targets for robbery but there has got to be another way to get the job done. I mean, seriously, with the kind of guns and ammunition T.I. was buying from that federal agent you would think he was going to Iraq. I hope other players in the game notice that guns aren’t always the best way to go BUT if you do go that route make sure you’re LEGAL. There are ways to protect yourself and not risk going to prison over an avoidable felony charge.
