Concrete Jungle
Hip Hop Lives Online: So what’s going on with you fam? How are things going on your side?
Gar: Oh everything is beautiful man, I’m in the best position I could be in, coming from the last project. I ain’t complaining about nothing man. I got the Life in the Concrete Jungle, just working on the album after this one here.
HHLO: Now you’re from the N.O. You and your boy Snipe form the Chopper City boys. How long has the group been together?
Gar: The groups actually been together since 2003. It was actually four member in the group man but things happen situations happen in life, now it’s just two of us. But even if it was just one of us we would still be the Chopper City Boys. But it formed in 2003 and we’ve been banging ever since then.
HHLO: So what happen to the other member’s man? They was too busy chasing bit*hes, they was slacking off or what man?
Gar: I mean Hakim, he is focusing on his solo career right now, which is fine. I know ya’ll heard about VL Mike. Rest in peace VL Mike, he got murdered a few months back in the City.
HHLO: So let’s talk about the album man. Let’s get the business out of the way then we can get into some personal issues. Tell me about the new project.
Gar: The new project drops on September 16th Life in the Concrete Jungle. It’s just me Snipe and Gizzle. Giving ya’ll Chopper City, giving ya’ll Life in the Concrete Jungle. You know Gizzle nicknamed New Orleans Chopper City back in the G, ya know a few years back, so we just put our little twist on that an gave ya’ll Life in the Concrete Jungle. Compared to the last one, we had a whole lot of features, and speaking of features we got the homey C-Murder on the album. We got skip on the album, Rocko, and Hurricane Chris on the album. We have a New Orleans artist named Show from Manny Fresh’s label on the album. We got Six Shot and Lady Dolla on the album. Of course we have the big homey Gizzle on the album. Just straight stunners man, ya heard me..
HHLO: So the album drops September 16th ya’ll are doing your promotional run early.
Gar: A thirty something day promotional run man, but we’re putting it in. Not to mention we’re siding this joint here with the Chopper City Boy album. We’re working dog we’re just working man.
HHLO: Aight, well what’s going to be the first single off of the project man?
Snipe: Bubble Gum. It’s already in the streets out there man. We are going to let the streets/ the fan base determine what the next single is going to be.
HHLO: Aight so you already have the single popping, do you have a video for it already? Any big booty chicks in the video or something like that?
Gar: Man we’re shooting a video like in three weeks. We are having a casting call on Thursday. We’re working, it’s a strip club hit and a club banger.
HHLO: Yea..
Gar: We’re catering to the females with this one here. The album has a whole plethora of gangsta sh*t on there man but we’re trying to go at the ladies man.
Snipe: We like to get the females.
HHLO: Yea, I know what’s up. That’s why I asked that question. I’ve seen those videos you boys in the south do. Not saying ya’ll are degrading women or nothing like that, but ya’ll get it poppin. Ya hit the strip clubs up, have chicks dancing on top of them cars down there.
Gar: What’s that?
HHLO: You know them lil’ cars you down south ni**as be driving.
Snipe: Man they’re driving anything with a key in the ignition.
HHLO: Well I’ve seen a few big booty chicks hopping around on top of cars down there in the N.O.
Gar: Oh you mean them Chevy’s and Impalas.
HHLO: Yea.
Gar: To be honest with you, I don’t know what it is, but we don’t do too many old school cars down here. I mean we did old schools like the Cutlass and Monte Carlo’s and Regal’s man, but now we up on them big Benz’s man. Them Bently’s and sh*t like that.
Snipe: Them Maybach’s. We had to upgrade.
HHLO: So what’s you guys theory on your approach to this rap game man? I mean everybody has a different approach, everybody has a different way they go about it. Some dude like to base their lyrics and their music on their lifestyles and things that they been thru. Now I’m not too familiar with you guy’s background, some things I’ve researched or found out but ya man BG had a hard road and a hard life. So what can I expect from your music? What can I expect lyrically?
Snipe: We base our sh*t on real sh*t, ya know what I’m saying because we’re real people. We are real individuals that’s why you’re going to hear so much real sh*t.
HHLO: Now how has your guy’s relationship been with Cash Money? Is there anything going on with that? Are ya’ll going to be a part of the reunion? Do ya’ll plan on hopping on that album or what?
Gar: Pretty much, I salute Cash Money, I salute everybody who came before me, but I pretty much don’t. Chopper City is my home man. I ain’t really get down with Cash Money too much, I salute Cash money, but from now on sky’s the limit ya know. Chopper City we’re trying to reach the sky, so anything, anything is possible, ya never know.
Snipe: Right just like they never thought we would come with a Bubble Gum song.
HHLO: Look now I’m going to be honest with you guys. In the past I’ve been harsh on Cash Money, well not necessarily Cash Money but on a few members. That’s just the way I am. It took me a while to even catch up to this last little Wayne album. Now I’m still not really up on the Chopper City Boys, now I know I heard you say you spit the real and I heard a couple of tracks your promotional team sent me now is this Gutta music is there going to be a bunch of bounce tracks or what?
Gar: Well you know Gizzle is co-signing us man so it can’t be nothing but that gutter sh*t man. Gizzle is the co-signer.
Snipe: But at the same time we do have our own lifestyles that we live. So when you hear them individual tracks, you will hear some different flavor.
Gar: We really speak from the streets of New Orleans but from our perspective.
HHLO: Now you got C-Murder on the album, I know he just got out of jail I actually just worked on his case while he was in there (R.I.P to Miss Battle Cry) but how did you guys connect that?
Gar: Ahh C is like family man. When he got locked up, Gizzle shot the video with Zeke so C is like family. It was nothing but a phone call.
HHLO: Now I read on your Bio one of ya’ll dropped out of school in 91’ and hit the road who was that?
Gar: Let me clear that up, it’s not like I did a Kanye a college dropout or nothing things just popped of while I was in the middle of a semester.
HHLO: So you’re a G in this game man may I ask ya’ll ages?
Gar: I’m 26
Snipe: I’m 27
HHLO: Come on Gar.
Gar: Believe that.
HHLO: Come on Gar. Your telling me you was in college in 91 Gar, sh*t I’m 29
Gar: No, No that’s 2001 man
HHLO: Ahh they got sh*t fu*ked up then man.
Gar: 91? Boy let me tell you something.
HHLO: Your bio got you dropping your first album at 37, 38 man. You got to straighten that out man. I’m looking at this thing like your old as sh*t. You know they got a lot of dudes dropping their first album at 38 saying their 13 man.
Gar: Ahh that’s cold they’re trying to kill all of my female fans huh?
HHLO: Aight well that’s what’s up, tell ya man BG to holla at me man. My radio show should be poppin soon, so tell him to come holla and when he does then we can discuss my twisted views of the Cash Money Crew, ya know.
Gar: Believe that.
HHLO: Yea they scared me off. Too many young people running around with their shirts off calling a grown man Baby for my taste.
Gar: Ahhh (Laughing)
HHLO: But it’s all good man I wish ya’ll much success on the album man.
Gar: I appreciate you.
Snipe: We appreciate you having us man.
