The course has been created following a pilot course which was carried out at the RelyOn Nutec north of England training facility.
This new course has been developed to meet a globally recognised requirement to enhance competency in lifting operations in the onshore and offshore wind sector supply chain. It follows a report from G+ Global Offshore Wind Health & Safety Organisation, which identified that lifting operations represented the highest number of reported incidents.
The global safety, skills and competency training organisation already delivers a suite of courses for the renewables industry across its UK training facilities, including GWO basic safety training, basic technical training and more.
With the required personnel already in place at the Teesside facility, RelyOn Nutec is set to start to deliver this new OPITO course over the summer. Dates are currently available to book online.
David McColgan, RelyOn's head of sector for UK renewables, said: “we have decades of experience delivering safety services for the offshore industry, and we're now using the knowledge we've amassed to support organisations from the renewables sector as well as those who are transitioning from traditional sources of energy. This course is key to producing a safer operating environment for the wind industry and we were pleased to work alongside OPITO as they produced a course which will ultimately reduce risk across lifting activities.
“Our team is highly knowledgeable of the wind industry and our UK training centres are strategically placed where major wind developments are underway. We are very well positioned to fully support the industry with required accreditation as it grows around our shores.”
Andy Williamson, Head of Energy Transition at OPITO, said: “It’s been great to work in partnership with our network of accredited training centres to develop and accelerate this important standard. There is a clear demand for courses of this nature within the wind industry and we are delighted that we can meet that need and make this available globally.”
Dates have been scheduled and can be booked here.
